Terms of Use & Disclaimers
Effective July 23, 2026
Welcome to Kavik. These Terms of Use & Disclaimers (the "Terms") are a binding agreement between you and WildLogicLab Inc. They are written in plain language to keep them clear, but they are a legal agreement. Read them carefully: by tapping "I Agree" you confirm that you have read, understood, and accept them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
In summary: Kavik is a planning and reference aid for lawful hunting in Alberta. It is not the official regulations, not a legal survey of land, and not a safety, navigation, or emergency device. You are responsible for hunting safely and legally — always confirm the current rules with the official sources and obtain permission before entering any land. By using Kavik you accept the risks of hunting and backcountry travel and agree to use Kavik only for lawful purposes. This summary is for convenience; the numbered sections below govern.
1. Who we are, who can use Kavik & accepting these terms
Kavik is provided by WildLogicLab Inc. ("WildLogicLab", "we", "us", "our"), a company incorporated in Alberta, Canada. These Terms of Use & Disclaimers (the "Terms") are a binding agreement that governs your use of the Kavik mobile app, our website, and related services (together, "Kavik"). By creating an account, tapping "I Agree", or using Kavik, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
You represent that: (a) you are at least 13 years old, and, if you are under the age of majority where you live, your parent or guardian has read and agreed to these Terms and permits your use of Kavik; (b) the information you give us is accurate and kept up to date; (c) you hold, or will hold, every licence, draw, and authorization required for your activities; and (d) you will use Kavik only for lawful purposes and in line with these Terms. If you use Kavik for an organization, you confirm you are authorized to bind it. If you do not agree, do not use Kavik. These Terms take effect on July 23, 2026 and replace any earlier version.
2. What Kavik is — and what it is not
Kavik is a planning and reference tool for hunters: maps, regulation summaries, draw and harvest information, weather, and tools for saving your own waypoints, tracks, areas, notes, and photos. Kavik is a convenience aid only. It is NOT an official source of hunting regulations, NOT a legal survey or a source of legal property boundaries, and NOT a safety, navigation, or emergency device.
GPS and map data have significant limitations. The location, direction, distance, and timing shown in Kavik depend on your device's GPS and sensors, on signal and battery, and on data that may be cached, approximate, or out of date; they can be wrong or unavailable, especially in the backcountry. Do not rely on Kavik where precise location, direction, distance, or timing matters, or where an error could put you, others, wildlife, or property at risk. Kavik does not contact emergency services and is not an SOS, rescue, or communication device. Always carry a physical map and compass and a reliable means of communication, know how to use them, and tell someone your plans before you go.
3. Regulations & seasons — we are not the official source, always verify
Hunting seasons, draws, zones, boundaries, bag limits, legal weapons, and harvest data shown in Kavik are provided for reference and convenience only. They are derived from Government of Alberta publications, may be out of date, incomplete, or contain errors, and can change at any time. Kavik is not the authoritative source and does not relieve you of your responsibility to know and follow the rules that apply to your hunt.
Before you hunt, you are solely responsible for confirming all current regulations against the official sources, including the current Alberta Hunting Regulations (albertaregulations.ca) and MyWildAlberta (mywildalberta.ca), and for holding every licence, draw, and authorization that applies to you. If Kavik and an official source disagree, the official source always governs.
Values Kavik computes are estimates, not official determinations. Sunrise, sunset, and legal shooting- or hunting-hour times are astronomical calculations for a point and may differ from the tables and rules in the official regulations, which always govern. Draw odds, harvest statistics, and similar figures are estimates derived from historical data and are no guarantee of any draw result or hunting outcome. Data saved for offline use is a snapshot taken when it was downloaded and may not reflect later official changes; verify against the official sources before you rely on it. Kavik's content is provided for general information only and does not constitute legal advice.
4. Maps, boundaries & private land — not a legal survey; get permission first
Wildlife Management Unit boundaries, Crown land, Public Land Use Zones, grazing leases, land-tenure layers, property lines, and every other boundary or overlay in Kavik are approximate, are provided for reference only, and may be inaccurate or out of date. They do NOT constitute a legal survey and do not establish who owns or controls any land. Land ownership and access can change at any time; the authoritative record is the official land title, survey, or the responsible government authority.
You are solely responsible for confirming the boundaries and status of any land and for obtaining permission from the landowner or leaseholder before you enter or hunt on it. In Alberta, entering private land for recreation generally requires the occupier's permission — whether or not the land is posted — and unauthorized entry can carry significant penalties under Alberta's trespass legislation. Never rely on Kavik to decide whether you may enter a particular piece of land or cross onto it; if you are not certain you have the right to enter, do not enter. Obey all signs, postings, and access restrictions in the field. You are responsible for avoiding trespass.
5. Landowner & leaseholder information
Kavik may display contact information for grazing-lease holders and similar land-access contacts — for example, a leaseholder's name and telephone number — as published by the Government of Alberta to help recreational users request access to land. Kavik displays this information for that sole purpose.
You agree to use this information only to make reasonable, respectful contact about access, and never for marketing, solicitation, harassment, bulk collection, republication, or any purpose unrelated to arranging access. Contacting a leaseholder does not by itself grant access: entry remains subject to the leaseholder's consent and any conditions they set, and to the requirements of the responsible authorities. Misuse of this information is a breach of these Terms and may also violate privacy and other laws. If you are a leaseholder with a question or concern about your information appearing in Kavik, contact us (see "Contact"); our Privacy Policy explains how we handle this information.
6. Assumption of risk, release & waiver
Hunting, shooting, and backcountry travel are inherently dangerous activities that can result in property damage, serious bodily injury, or death, can harm wildlife if done improperly, and can expose you to fines and other legal penalties. You understand these risks and voluntarily choose to accept them.
To the fullest extent permitted by the laws of Alberta and Canada, you assume all risk arising from your use of Kavik and from every decision you make in the field, and you release WildLogicLab Inc. and its owners, directors, officers, employees, contractors, and affiliates (the "WildLogicLab Parties") from, and agree not to bring, any claim for loss, injury, death, or damage arising from that use or those decisions — except to the extent it is caused by our own gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or fraud, and except for any liability that cannot be released or waived under applicable law (including, where applicable, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence). You are responsible for your own safety, fitness, and preparation, and for hunting legally, ethically, and safely — including complying with all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws, holding the required licences, observing all seasons, zones, boundaries, and limits, and following all landowner and leaseholder access rules. You alone are responsible for your conduct, including any trespass or any violation of a regulation, season, zone, or bag limit.
7. Your responsibilities & acceptable use
You agree to use Kavik lawfully and responsibly. You will not, and will not allow anyone else to: (a) use Kavik to plan, assist, or carry out any unlawful activity, including hunting out of season or without a required licence, hunting in a closed or unauthorized area, exceeding a bag limit, or trespassing on private or restricted land; (b) rely on Kavik in a way that endangers people, wildlife, or property; (c) copy, scrape, data-mine, harvest, resell, or redistribute Kavik's data or content except as these Terms or applicable law expressly allow; (d) reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, or circumvent security, access controls, or tier or usage limits; (e) interfere with, overload, probe, or disrupt Kavik or its servers, or introduce malware; (f) use Kavik to infringe anyone's rights or to upload unlawful, infringing, or harmful content; or (g) misrepresent your identity or use another person's account without permission. You are responsible for everything done through your account and for the consequences of your own misuse.
8. Your account & security
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at kavik@wildlogiclab.com if you suspect any unauthorized use. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss arising from someone else using your account, except to the extent it is caused by our own failure to meet a duty we owe you under applicable law. Keep your own backups of anything important (see "Your content").
9. Your licence to use Kavik
Kavik — its software, design, look and feel, text, graphics, logos, the "Kavik" name, and the organization and compilation of its data — is owned by WildLogicLab and its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Kavik for your own personal, non-commercial hunting and planning. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, sublicense, publicly display, scrape, data-mine, reverse-engineer, decompile, or create derivative works from any part of Kavik or its data, except as these Terms or applicable law expressly allow.
10. Your content
Waypoints, tracks, areas, notes, and photos you create ("Your Content") remain yours. They are stored on your device and synced to your account. You grant WildLogicLab a limited licence to store, process, back up, and display Your Content solely to operate and provide Kavik to you, including any sharing features you choose to use. If you share content — for example, by sending a share link — anyone who receives the link can view and import what you shared; share only what you are prepared to disclose, and only content you have the right to share. We may remove or disable content that violates these Terms or applicable law.
You are responsible for Your Content and for keeping your own backups of anything important. Note that saved locations and tracks are records that could, like any data, be disclosed if we are legally required to do so (see our Privacy Policy) — a saved point is not proof that you were ever physically present at that place.
11. Subscriptions, billing & auto-renewal
Kavik offers a free tier and optional paid subscriptions. Paid subscriptions are sold and billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play under their terms. Payment is charged to your store account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew for the same period unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends. You can view, manage, or cancel a subscription, and turn off auto-renewal, in your Apple or Google account settings. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription. Prices and plans may change; we will give notice of changes as required, and changes do not affect the period you have already paid for. Except where required by law or by the applicable store, payments are non-refundable.
We may offer a free trial of a paid tier — for example, for new accounts. The trial itself does not charge you: when it ends, your access simply reverts to the free tier unless you subscribe. Trials are limited to one per person and per device; we use a device identifier to enforce this (see our Privacy Policy). Trial availability, length, and included features may change or end at any time.
12. Third-party maps, data & services
Kavik includes data and services from third parties, each under its own terms: base maps by Mapbox, whose outdoors and satellite-streets styles include map data © Mapbox and © OpenStreetMap contributors; Wildlife Management Unit boundaries, Crown land, Public Land Use Zones, and regulation data from the Government of Alberta under the Open Government Licence – Alberta (open.alberta.ca/licence); and weather from Open-Meteo. We do not control third-party data or services and are not responsible for their accuracy, availability, terms, acts, or omissions, or for any loss arising from a third-party service changing, failing, or going offline. Your use of a third-party service is governed by that third party's own terms. Third-party content remains the property of its owners.
13. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Kavik is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties or conditions of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that Kavik will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any data (including maps, boundaries, regulations, or weather) is accurate, complete, or current. Nothing in this section removes any warranty, condition, or right you have that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including Alberta consumer-protection law (see "Your consumer rights").
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the WildLogicLab Parties (as defined above) will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or opportunity. Whether a claim is based in contract, tort (including negligence), statute, or otherwise, the WildLogicLab Parties will not be liable for any loss, injury, death, property damage, fine, penalty, trespass or other third-party claim, lost or corrupted data, or other harm arising from or relating to: your use of, or inability to use, Kavik; any reliance on Kavik's maps, boundaries, regulations, draw, harvest, weather, or other data; any error, delay, interruption, or unavailability of Kavik or a third-party service; or any decision you make in the field.
To the extent permitted by law, the total aggregate liability of the WildLogicLab Parties for all claims relating to Kavik, whether arising in contract, tort (including negligence), statute, or otherwise, is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid to us (through the Apple App Store or Google Play) for Kavik in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) fifty Canadian dollars (CAD $50). These limits apply even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose, and they reflect a reasonable allocation of risk that is part of the basis of our agreement with you.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for gross negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for wilful misconduct, and including any non-excludable right under Alberta's Consumer Protection Act. Because some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations or exclusions, parts of this section may not apply to you.
15. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold the WildLogicLab Parties harmless from any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, fines, penalties, and reasonable legal fees (actually incurred) arising from or relating to your use of Kavik, your breach of these Terms, Your Content, or your violation of any law, regulation, season, boundary, or the rights of another person — including any trespass or unlawful hunting. This does not apply to the extent a claim results from our own gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or fraud. We may, at our own expense, take over the defence of any claim you must indemnify, and you agree to cooperate; you will not settle any such claim in a way that imposes an obligation on us without our written consent.
16. Suspension & termination
You may stop using Kavik at any time and may close your account through the app or by contacting us. We may suspend or limit your access, or terminate your account and these Terms, if you breach these Terms, if we reasonably believe your use creates legal risk or harm to you or others, or if we are required to by law. We will give reasonable notice where practical, but may act immediately for serious or urgent issues. We may also change or discontinue Kavik, or any part of it, as described in "Changes to Kavik & to these Terms". On termination, your licence to use Kavik ends and you must stop using it; fees already paid are handled under "Subscriptions, billing & auto-renewal". Any provisions that by their nature should survive — including the disclaimers, assumption of risk and waiver, limitation of liability, indemnity, your consumer rights, governing law, and the general terms — survive termination.
17. Your consumer rights
Nothing in these Terms waives, limits, or overrides any right, benefit, or protection you have under Alberta's Consumer Protection Act or other applicable consumer-protection law that cannot be waived. Any attempt to do so is void, and the remaining Terms continue to apply. If a provision of these Terms conflicts with a right you have under that law, that law prevails.
18. Changes to Kavik & to these Terms
We regularly improve Kavik and may add, change, suspend, or remove features. We may also update these Terms. When we make a material change, we will ask you to review and accept the updated Terms before you continue using the app, and we will update the effective date above. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree, stop using Kavik and close your account.
19. Events beyond our control
We are not responsible for any failure or delay in providing Kavik that is caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including acts of nature, severe weather, fire, flood, power or internet failures, telecommunications or third-party service outages, labour disputes, government actions, or emergencies. This does not affect any non-excludable right you have under applicable law.
20. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the laws of Canada that apply there. You and WildLogicLab agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Alberta, sitting in Calgary, for any dispute, except that, where the law of the place you live gives you that right, you may also bring a qualifying claim in the small-claims court for the area where you live. We will not require you to resolve a consumer dispute through mandatory binding arbitration; any arbitration would only be by your agreement after a dispute has arisen. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under your home jurisdiction's consumer-protection law, which this section does not take away.
21. App-store terms (Apple & Google)
If you download Kavik from the Apple App Store or Google Play, these Terms are between you and WildLogicLab only, not Apple or Google. Apple and Google are not responsible for Kavik or its content and have no obligation to provide support or maintenance for it; WildLogicLab, not the store, is responsible for the app and for addressing any claims relating to it. You agree to comply with the applicable store's terms and with all export-control and sanctions laws. Apple and its subsidiaries, and Google and its affiliates, are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms with respect to your use of the app obtained from their respective store, and may enforce these Terms against you as such.
If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the app's purchase price to you (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app, and any other warranty claim, loss, or liability is governed by these Terms as between you and WildLogicLab. WildLogicLab, not Apple or Google, is responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app — including product-liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer-protection claims, and claims that the app infringes a third party's intellectual-property rights.
22. General terms
These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and WildLogicLab about Kavik and replace any earlier understanding on that subject. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stay in effect and the unenforceable provision is applied to the fullest extent permitted. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver of it. You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms; we may assign ours to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, sale, or reorganization, and will let you know where required. We may give you notices in the app, by email, or on our website, and you consent to receiving notices electronically; if we send you marketing messages, we will do so only as permitted by Canada's anti-spam legislation (CASL) and you can opt out at any time. The parties have agreed that these Terms be drafted in English. Les parties ont convenu que les présentes conditions soient rédigées en anglais.
23. Contact
Questions, complaints, or claims about Kavik or these Terms may be sent to WildLogicLab Inc. by email at kavik@wildlogiclab.com or by mail at 397 Belmont Park SW, Calgary, AB T2X 5S9, Canada. We review every message and respond as promptly as we reasonably can.
