Privacy Policy
Effective July 23, 2026
Kavik is provided by WildLogicLab Inc. ("WildLogicLab", "we", "us", "our"), and we are accountable for the personal information handled through it. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). This policy takes effect on July 23, 2026.
1. What we collect
Account information you provide (such as your email address and sign-in details); location data (see the next section); the content you create in the app (waypoints, tracks, areas, notes, and photos); your settings and preferences; a device identifier (such as your device's vendor or app-set identifier — not your phone number or IMEI) used to determine free-trial eligibility, to limit the number of simultaneously active devices on an account, and to prevent fraud and abuse; subscription status and purchase receipts needed to validate your entitlements; and basic technical and diagnostic information (such as device type, app version, and error logs) needed to run, secure, and improve the app. We do not collect more than we need to provide Kavik.
You can also browse Kavik without creating an account. If you do, we do not collect account information about you — the app only makes the technical requests needed to serve you, such as fetching the map areas you view (see "Third-party services"). Features that save or sync your own content require an account.
2. Location data, including background location
Kavik is a map-based hunting tool, so location is core to how it works. With your permission, we use your device's precise GPS location to show where you are, and — only when you start a recording — to record your track. Track recording can use location in the background so your route keeps recording with the screen off; the app shows an indicator while this is active. We do not track your location in the background except while you are recording. You can grant or revoke location and background-location permission at any time in your device settings; some features will not work without it.
3. Your content and where it is stored
Your waypoints, tracks, areas, notes, and photos are stored on your device and synced to your account so you can access them across sessions and devices. Account and synced data are hosted on our behalf by our infrastructure provider (Supabase) on secured servers located in Canada. Some of our other providers — for example Apple and Google for subscription billing — may also process information outside Canada. When information is stored or processed in another country, it is subject to the laws of that country, including lawful access by its courts and authorities. Your saved locations are personal to you and are not shared with other users or sold.
If you use a sharing feature — for example, sharing a waypoint, track, or area as a link — the shared item and any image attached to it become available to anyone who has the link. Share only what you are prepared to disclose.
4. Information about other individuals
Some reference layers in Kavik include limited contact information about individuals who are not Kavik users — for example, the names and telephone numbers of grazing-lease holders — as published by the Government of Alberta to help recreational users request access to land. We display this information for that purpose only, we do not use it for marketing or combine it with other data about the individual, and our Terms of Use require Kavik users to use it only for reasonable, access-related contact.
If you are a leaseholder or other listed contact and have a question or concern about your information appearing in Kavik, contact us at kavik@wildlogiclab.com. Where the concern is about how Kavik displays the information, we will review and act on it; where it concerns the underlying public record, we will direct you to the responsible Government of Alberta office.
5. How we use your information
We use your information to provide and operate Kavik — to sign you in, show maps and regulations, sync and back up your content, deliver weather for your area, process subscriptions, provide support, keep the app secure, and fix and improve features. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your saved locations for advertising. We limit our collection, use, and disclosure to the purposes described in this policy, and we rely on your consent to handle your personal information; you can withdraw your consent at any time (subject to legal or contractual limits and reasonable notice), although some features may not work without it. If we ever want to use your information for a new, unrelated purpose, we will tell you and, where the law requires it, ask your consent first. We handle your personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
6. Third-party services
Some features rely on third-party providers, each handling data under its own terms: Supabase (account hosting and sync, on servers in Canada); Mapbox (base maps — the app requests map tiles for the areas you view, and Mapbox may collect limited usage telemetry as described in its own privacy policy); Open-Meteo (weather — it receives the coordinates a forecast is requested for, not your identity); RevenueCat (subscription management — it receives purchase receipts and an app-specific user identifier to validate your entitlements); Amazon Web Services (delivery infrastructure — Kavik's own map layers are served through its content-delivery network, which receives standard connection information such as your IP address and the map areas requested, and our account emails are sent through its email service, which processes your email address); and Apple and Google (app distribution and subscription billing — we never receive your full payment-card details). These providers process only what is needed for their part of the service, under terms that require them to protect your information and use it only to provide their part of Kavik; some are located outside Canada (see "Your content and where it is stored"). Mapbox's base maps are built on OpenStreetMap data, credited in our Terms; OpenStreetMap does not receive your personal information.
7. Marketing messages and your choices
We only send you commercial or promotional messages if the law allows it — for example, because you asked to hear from us or because you are our customer — as permitted by Canada's anti-spam legislation (CASL). Every marketing email identifies us and includes an easy way to unsubscribe, and you can opt out at any time; we will act on your request promptly. Service messages you need in order to use Kavik — such as sign-in, security, billing, or important account and policy notices — are not marketing and may still be sent while your account is active.
8. When we may disclose information
We disclose personal information only to run the service (as above) or when we are legally required to — for example, to comply with a valid court order, subpoena, warrant, or other lawful request, or to protect safety, our rights, or the rights of others, or to assist in an emergency such as a search and rescue. Like any records, your account data and saved tracks or waypoints could be produced if compelled by law. We limit any such disclosure to what is required.
9. Retention and deleting your data
We keep your information only for as long as we need it: for the life of your active account, and afterward only for as long as we reasonably need it to provide Kavik, resolve disputes, and meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations. When we no longer need personal information, we delete it or make it anonymous. You can delete individual waypoints, tracks, and areas at any time in the app. You can delete your entire account directly from the Profile tab; deleting your account removes your synced personal data from our systems, subject to backups that age out and any records we must keep by law. You may also contact us to ask what we hold about you or to request correction or deletion (see "Accessing and correcting your information" below for how these requests work).
10. Accessing and correcting your information
You have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, how we have used it, and to whom we have disclosed it, and to ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date. Email us at kavik@wildlogiclab.com and we will respond within the time the law allows — generally within 30 days under PIPEDA and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act — or tell you if we need more time. We may need to confirm your identity before we act on a request, and in the limited cases where the law lets us decline all or part of a request, we will explain why. You can also do many of these things yourself in the app: you can view and edit your content, and delete individual items or your whole account from the Profile tab.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we maintain safeguards to protect your data and to limit who can access it. If a breach of our security safeguards affects your personal information and creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities, and keep records of the breach, as required by PIPEDA and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act.
12. Age and children
Kavik is a general-audience app — anyone can use it to explore maps and read regulations. Because using an account means we handle personal information such as your email and location, you must be at least 13 to create an account, and if you are under the age of majority where you live you should use Kavik with a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us at kavik@wildlogiclab.com and we will delete it. Hunting itself is subject to age and licensing requirements set by law — knowing and meeting those is your responsibility, as explained in our Terms of Use.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Kavik evolves. When we make a material change we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
14. Contact us
We are accountable for the personal information in our care. If you have a question, request, or complaint about your privacy, or about how we handle your personal information, contact our Privacy Officer at WildLogicLab Inc. by email at kavik@wildlogiclab.com or by mail at 397 Belmont Park SW, Calgary, AB T2X 5S9, Canada. We will respond as required by law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca) or, in Alberta, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta (oipc.ab.ca).
